A Note from Toni:

Thank you so much for having me, Peg! I wanted to talk about my latest release, Buying Love. One of the subject matters the book deals with is adoption. However, I wanted to examine it in a different light.

Nina Warrenton is now in her thirties. Raised an orphan, she was never adopted. Thus, her world is shaped and isolation is now her comfort. It’s hard to go through life in isolation. God didn’t build us for that. Nina knows this on an intellectual level, but she’s not sure how to handle it.
Instead of turning over her wants and desires to God, she takes matters into her own hand. She places an ad in the paper for a husband, complete with a monetary offer to help suede the would be suitor. Enter Dwight Williams. He’s more than Nina bargains for. As she interacts with him and his family, she slowly sees that she’s not completely alone. God has blessed her with a heavenly family: the body of Christ.

I wrote this book hoping that those who read it would be touched by the thought of belonging to God and the brothers and sisters in Christ. It opens a whole new world to us when we realize we’re not alone. We don’t have to walk our journeys alone.

I hope Nina and Dwight’s story touches your heart and draws you closer to our Heavenly Father. If you know someone who may be feeling isolated, reach out to them. Don’t let a moment go by without them realizing that someone cares and that family is what you create.

Blessings to you and happy reading!

The Physics of Love, a Donna Schlachter Book

Please join me as author Donna Schlacther shares her new book with us.

Title: The Physics of Love
Published by: PLS Bookworks

A woman looking for love, a boy looking for family, and the man who found both.

Set in 1930’s and 1940’s Newfoundland, this story is as rugged as the island setting. Years of struggling to survive in a harsh environment have created a unique group of people, isolated by the miles of ocean surrounding them who long to connect with each other.

Laura, motherless since she was 12, has sought her father’s love and attention ever since; however, his heart is buried with his dead wife. He has nothing to give.

Richard, the son born of a backseat liaison sure to anger her father, stands between the life Laura thinks she wants and the life she will be relegated to in the small town of Carbonear. So she does the unthinkable—she leaves him. Richard grows up thinking Laura is his sister, only to learn when he is a teenager that she is his mother, that his father is really his grandfather, and that the woman he calls Mom isn’t even related to him by blood. But instead of destroying him, Richard sets out on a journey to prove he is wanted and he is part of a family that would love him if they really knew him. In the process, he finds everything—and more—that he longs for.

10 Signs you Might be Suffering from CAD

This is a fun post, compliments of my friend and fellow Helping Hands Press author, PATTI J. SMITH, used here with permission.

Thanks, Patti

ATTENTION ALL WRITERS!
10 signs ou might be suffering from C.A.D. - Character Attachment Disorder.
Check the following list to see if you have the symptoms.

1.): You cry uncontrollably while writing about the death of your character, then light a candle in memorium.

2.): You go into a deep depression after the death of a character — stay in bed all day, neglect family, call in sick to work (characters do not qualify for bereavement leave).

3,): You rewrite your manuscript to avoid killing off your character.

4.): You dream about your character killing you off.

5.): You call out your character's name in your sleep. (Makes for interesting breakfast talk with your spouse).

6.): When the phone rings, for a split second you think it's your character calling.

7.): You wonder what your character is doing right now!

8.): You gossip with your friends about what your character did.

9.): You chuckle all day about the funny thing your character did or said.

10.): You name your child or pet after your character.

So, how did you do? Did you find yourself nodding your head, perhaps even smiling as you read this list?

If so, then it's my duty to tell you that you do, indeed, suffer from CAD. Though there is no cure, there's no need to panic. There are multiple hundreds of CAD sufferers out there, and you've just joined our world!

Now, I'd love to hear from you. Comments welcome.

Writing Talk with author Gail Kittleson

I am so pleased to have Gail Kittleson here today to share some 'writing talk' with us. Gail and I have been online friends for quite some time now, and I've come to have a great appreciation for her. Not only her writing—I really enjoy her books—but also her editing skills, which have come doubly in handy since we are co-writing a fun, cozy mystery. I think I can safely say we're both having a blast with this story.

Gail, welcome to Whispers in Purple! Let's talk writing!

The Gift of Writing
by Gail Kittleson

I've always thought of writing as a gift. And lately, even more so, because I've had some eye problems that preclude spending much time w/my laptop. I've never thought of the need to promote my writing as a gift, but am realizing perhaps it is.

Meeting new people has always been the frosting on my cake. What better way to meet them than making cold calls to slews of libraries and speaking with directors? So many of them seem eager to accommodate a writer and familiarize themselves and their clients with our work. How this be less than a gift?

Discovering an eye condition that limits my computer time has led me here. But maybe it's where I should have gone long before this. The writing addict in me says nothing counts like putting in long hours composing and editing, but my recent positive experience with setting up my first "book tour" has me rethinking this.

Some  library directors, near retirement, still see aid to set up book talks or pass my information along to their successors. Others that sound younger and energetic, make time to chat with an older writer who calls out of the blue. People person that I am, after wallowing in self-pity for a while, now I wake up excited to launch into my ever-increasing list of libraries.

Today, an honest director in a small Iowa town said, "Oh, I'd love to host you, and your World War II series sound fascinating, but I've had poor luck getting our community to attend library functions. However, why don't you contact one of our Main Street stores - they've done well enticing participants for other book talks.

So I did, and I'm "on," as they say. In fact, my appointments for book talks have risen to eight, possibly nine for this first venture into touring. Planning my route out, I feel somewhat like a traveling salesman must have decades ago. But I still remember how the Fuller Brush Man found an avid customer in our farmhouse. Mom was always glad to see him drive in so she could buy some new vegetable brushes or spices.

Maybe I'll report in on my success after the tour. Does that tell you I'm expecting to do well? Of course, doing well is subject to interpretation, but I never fail to be encouraged when I find two or three new readers. I'll be glad to get home, certainly, but hoping that those who heard me speak and bought my book will become fans. I may say, "I don't know why I kept putting this off … it was great fun!"

So if you think of me the week of November seventh, please send up a prayer for alertness while I'm driving and the gift of joy in this endeavor. Really, it's ALL about writing!

An Encouraging Psalm Adaptation

Prayer lists and prayer chains are working overtime these days. At least I know several of mine are. Everything from lost jobs/unemployment, illness & injuries, unexpected death, suicide, abuse, family/domestic issues . . .

So a few years ago I did an adaptation of David’s Psalm 121 replacing all the I, me, my, mine with We, our and us.

You can also “Pray the Psalms” when praying for someone specific. Just insert his/her/their name in the appropriate place. It is amazing how comforting and calming it can be.

Won't you join me?
