Lean Not to Your Own Understanding
by Caryl McAdoo

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

A familiar Proverb, one repeated often when we find ourselves perplexed at the predicaments we find ourselves in. I personally have clung to and quoted this scripture many times in my life . . . but never in a life or death situation. My title character William Abel “Billy” Sinclair, Junior, is called to do just that. He’s a black man in 1926 Dalton, Georgia, on trial for the murder of his half-brother by another mother.

Though he claims self-defense, the Klan’s position is that under any circumstances, no black man has the right to kill a white man, so Billy faces an uphill battle with gallows and a noose waiting at the top. A high powered black attorney from Atlanta sends his assistant who’s just recently passed her bar exam to interview the jailed man and handle some preliminary work.

Billy believes the Lord is leading him to skip the man with the fame and let his young white assistant Alice plead his case, but that’d be signing his own death sentence . . . at least that’s what she thinks! She wants no part of his scheme, but Billy and his grandson Will agree she’s the one. Along the way, with her saying, “No. No. No.”, he struggles with doubts. Maybe not-guilty by reason of insanity?

I want to let you know that you can download the eBook of THE BEDWARMER’S SON today for FREE at Amazon! So you can read and discover Billy’s fate. It received a personal 6-Star rating by a ‘top fifty’ Amazon reviewer who called it: ‘Possibly McAdoo’s magnum opus to date, certainly a piece de resistance.’ I’d love you to receive this story as my gift and enjoy! And so, back to our Proverb. I found myself in a position of needing a vehicle. Ours transmission died just before the release of VOW UNBROKEN, book one of my Texas Romance series that Simon and Schuster published. I’d diligently worked to arrange an outstanding launch month that included 26 face-to-face events (store signings, launch parties at friend’s homes, and launch parties at coffee shops and restaurants and churches) in twenty-one North Texas cities.

The first one was less than ten days away; hence, my NEED, albeit not life or death. But I’m old, and I have learned to T.R.U.S.T. Him in my sixty-six years! My sister was leaving for Colorado and let me use her car for the first week, but needed it when she returned. She asked me what I was going to do when I returned her keys and I remember telling her, “I don’t know, but God does. He knows my need.”

That next day, I was told to go pick out a car—chose a green (favorite color) Toyota Corolla.; next day, find the best out-the-door dealership price. That next afternoon, the Lord’s servant showed up, wrote a check and paid in full, tax, title, and license, and handed me the keys of my brand new car. So I have a testimony of His faithfulness.

Trust Him with your whole heart and do not try to figure things out! In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct you!

Do you have a testimony of God’s faithfulness? Or a word of acknowledgement to glorify Him?

➽➽➽ I’ll also offer a book one of the series VOW UNBROKEN to one of the commenters here on Peggy’s Blog! Thank you, sweet friend, for having me today. You are a blessing!

Caryl McAdoo loves writing stories for all ages that glorify God and is thrilled Christian fiction fits her life purpose so well. Bold not bashful, she’s quick to share the Bible principles she lives by through her characters and hopes each title ministers His love, mercy, and grace. Known as the “Singing Pray-er”—with a YouTube channel to prove it—the prolific hybrid author also loves praising Him with new songs He gives her.

Her high-school-sweetheart-husband moved the family from the DFW area—home for fifty-plus years—to the woods and seat of Red River County. After Ron, Caryl counts four children and sixteen grandsugars life’s biggest blessings. The McAdoos live a few miles south of Clarksville in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State with two grandsons.
