Maggie's Strength ~ Kimberly Grist ~ Giveaway

It's Wahoo Wednesday! Please welcome author Kimberly Grist and learn about her New Release– Maggie’s Strength.

(There's a giveaway involved, too. Scroll down for details.)

Hi, Kimberly, tell us about this book ... and something about yourself.

Hey y’all. I’m so happy to join you here on Whispers in Purple with Peggy to share my newest release. In my first novel Rebecca's Hope, I introduced colorful characters and innovative young women in a western town in the late 19th century. Maggie’s Strength is a continuation of the story about a petite young woman ahead of her time.

She's had a wonderful childhood and enjoyed spending time with her father and five brothers and is happiest working in the smithy with them. A competent cook and housekeeper, as a favor to the local doctor, she moves in to assist his wife who is struggling to recuperate from a bout of pneumonia.

A tomboy at heart, she ignores her mother's pleas to dress more appropriately. Until the son returns. A recent graduate of medical school, although handsome, the young doctor is stoic and obviously put out that his father has hired her to help his mother recuperate. Sparks fly and suddenly for the first time Maggie is concerned more about how she is perceived by others, especially the young doctor? The question is why?

Maggie draws on unrelenting strength where iron sharpens iron—a lesson straight from the blacksmith’s shop—forging an unexpected result of the romantic kind.

Although most blacksmiths were men, in my new release, Maggie is a pint-sized young woman who enjoys working alongside her father and brothers in the forge. She enjoys adding a bit of whimsy to the practical and useful pieces. While researching her character I was inspired by several hand forged items that in my imagination would have been exactly the types of items our heroine would have crafted. (Peg here ... I found a few to add, Kimberly. Hope you don't mind.)

 About Kimberly:
I’ve enjoyed writing since I was a young girl, however, I began writing my first novel in 2017. Inspired by so many things life has to offer including traumatic events one of which includes our oldest son’s diagnosis of cancer I find it especially gratifying to write a happy ending. “Suffering is, of course, is my least favorite thing. My objective is not to discuss my struggles specifically but to combine a love of history with biblical principles to produce a clean historical Christian romance, that shows how God uses adversity for our good in ways we may never expect.”

  5. Kimberly, I've got to admit that the whole idea of the book's theme and the main character being a lady blacksmith in the late 1800's tickles a whole lot of my curiosity bumps. This is a "gotta read" addition to my towering TBR list. Thing is, how am I supposed to read when I want...NEED...to be writing! To quote Yul Brynner from the movie 'The King and I' = "It's a puzzlement!" Okay, bow you know what antique I really am.

And I'd love to hear from any of you who have actually SEEN that movie. If you have, and mention it in a comment below, you'll get an extra entry in the drawing. One ... two ... three ... GO!
