Voice Recognition
a Devotional from author Kass Fogle
Have you ever been caught on the phone with voice
recognition software, repeating your name five times only to hear in a
recorded, tinny voice, “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that. Please say your first
and last name followed by the pound key.”
If you haven’t thrown the phone across the room or furiously
tapped or pressed the ‘zero’ key to get an operator, you have gotten farther
than many. It can be very frustrating to think you are communicating clearly
only to have your message misunderstood.
Especially when you are communicating with God.
I must admit, there are times when there is a cloud of
toxicity that creates static between our communication. And it’s not coming
from His end.
Maybe there is unconfessed sin (Psalm 66:18) or unforgiveness in our hearts (Mark 11:25). But whatever
it is, we must recognize it, cleanse our hearts of it so that our prayers are
heard. He listens to those who seek to clear their hearts of sin and
repent of their unrighteousness.
And even though He has it all figured out, He will still
listen.
Even though He knows best how to guide us, He will listen to
our petitions.
He listens because we call on Him and rely on Him for his
strength. He delights when we reach out for His protection. He rejoices when we
praise and worship Him.
So, don’t let a lack of faith hinder your prayers, remove
barriers from God recognizing your voice and learn to recognize his.
We recognize His voice through our faith and study of the
scriptures. When the enemy comes to do battle, we are prepared with the sword
of the spirit. We are better equipped when the enemy throws platitudes and
worldly fixes, packaged in pretty words our way.
If we follow Jesus, then we must believe and have no doubts
about His voice. John 10:27 says “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and
they follow me.” (NKJV)
Those who doubt do not recognize His voice, because though
they have seen His works, they still
don’t believe.
Those who have not witnessed His works but still believe we are His sheep. And sheep always recognize their
shepherd.
What sin or discord
clouds your conversation with Christ?
Are there any worldly
vices you rely on other than the Word of God?
Do you recognize His
voice? What can you do today that will enable you to more clearly battle
against the enemy?
